Flame Spray Flow Meter Unit

Oxygen-to-fuel ratio decides flame temperature, and flame temperature decides how well the coating bonds. A calibrated flow meter on each gas line lets an operator set the same ratio on Monday morning as on Friday night, and lets a QA engineer record it.

Buyer and Engineer Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS.

The questions spray shop supervisors and QA engineers ask most often about thermal spray gas flow metering.

Why does a thermal spray gun need a gas flow meter?

The oxygen-to-fuel ratio sets the flame temperature, and the flame temperature sets how well the coating bonds. A calibrated flow meter on each gas line lets an operator dial in the same ratio on every shift and lets a QA engineer record the setting against the job. Without metering, flame chemistry drifts as cylinder pressure falls and coating quality drifts with it.

Which gases can a Metaflux thermal spray flow meter handle?

A Metaflux flow meter panel meters oxygen, acetylene, LPG or propane, hydrogen, compressed air and nitrogen. Typical ranges are 0 to 4,000 LPH for oxygen, 0 to 2,000 LPH for fuel gas and 0 to 100 m³/hr for compressed air. Wetted parts are brass and stainless steel, oxygen-cleaned for oxygen service.

How accurate is a variable area gas flow meter?

A variable area rotameter of this type indicates to approximately ±2 to 3% of full scale. That is precise enough to make a thermal spray parameter set repeatable, which is what matters in practice; it is not a custody-transfer measurement. Each gas line has its own precision needle valve so the flow can be trimmed and held as cylinder pressure falls.

What working pressure and connections do the flow meters use?

Metaflux thermal spray flow meters are rated to 10 bar maximum working pressure, operate from 0 to 50 °C, and use 1/4 in or 3/8 in BSP inlet and outlet connections. The unit can be supplied panel mounted for a fixed booth or trolley mounted for site work.

Are flashback arrestors and non-return valves included?

Metaflux flow meter panels are built with provision for a non-return valve and a flashback arrestor on each fuel and oxygen line. Confirm at the time of order which safety fittings are to be supplied fitted, so the panel arrives ready for the gases and gun in use.

Why Gas Control Matters

Gas Flow Control and
Spray Process Accuracy.

Repeatability

Record the same oxygen and fuel settings on every shift and every batch.

Stable Output

Needle valve control holds flow steady as cylinder pressure falls.

Safety

Non-return valves and flashback arrestor provision on each gas line.
